The contents of the lesson.
I.1. Starting point.
Good morning students! Glad to see you. Sit down, please. Make yourselves
comfortable. How are you? What date is it today? Who is absent? What's the weather like today? Hope the weather doesn’t spoil our mood. We will work in any weather.
OK, let's start.
Good luck to you. Good luck to me. Keep your fingers crossed.
Сообщениецели: We continue our topic «Travelling… What for? » We will speak about travelling, you will listen to the record about a famous traveller, write a Grammar test on Passive or Active Voice.
2. Phonetics.
Let's revise some words on the topic. Read the words on the blackboard in the alphabetical order. Pay attention to your pronunciation. Who is the quickest?
( journey, flight, ocean liner, plane, bus, luggage, exausting, voyage, ship, foreign countries, investigate the world, destination).
Do you know any proverbs about travelling? P-l, CL: "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page." "The more you travel the more you see, the more you see the more you know." "You travel East, you travel West, but remember your Home is best".
3. Warming up.
And now I would like you to look at the blackboard and read the slogan which you canoften see in some travel agencies «Travel wide, travel wise». What does this statementmean? Why is it important to do both ?
II. 1. Discussion.
Т. Although, there is no place like home, every year a lot of people from different countries all over the world travel abroad on holidays. What about you? Do you like to travel? Do you travel around our country? What interesting places, cities, resorts have you been? Have you ever travelled to any foreign country? What foreign countries have you visited? What country impressed most of all? Why? Is travelling exciting? Why do people travel?
Now please look at the expressions and say what the reasons of travelling are. Don't forget to use the expression (I think… I suppose, believe… I am convinced that… There is no doubt that… I know for sure… If I am not mistaken… As far as I know…)
Pupil 1: There is no doubt that travelling is one of the most popular ways of spending holidays. While travelling people investigate the world. The more you travel, the more you see, the more you see, the more you know. Some people are sure that travelling gives us a good chance to discover new places, new species of animals and plants.
Pupil 2: In my opinion, travelling is good for people who are stressed or feel down. They can see world wonders, visit the most fantastic places, theatres, cinemas, do the shopping, meet new people. Some people travel on business. They want to develop trade and economic relationship with foreign companies.
Pupil 3:I am sure that travelling helps us broaden our mind. E very year more and more people travel abroad. It seems to me that they want to learn about art and culture, to practice foreign languages, to get to know lifestyles and traditions of different countries, to taste exotic food. So many countries, so many customs.
Pupil 4: As far as I know there ispractically no white spots left on our planet and people mostly travel for pleasure or for business. They usually travel by modern airliners and ships, by speedy trains or cars. They enjoy luxury travel and can get to the opposite side of the Earth in hours.
Pupil 5: But long ago travelling was dangerous and exhausting. It took travellers ages to get to their destination. They travelled across the ocean by wooden ships, across deserts on camelback. Travellers suffered from unknown diseases, hunger, thirst and wild animals. However, they set out to faraway lands to discover new places, new species of animals and plants.
II. 2. Listening-comprehension.
T.: The epoch of great discoveries was in the Middle Ages. The travelers were brave, courageous and unselfish people. Everybody knows the names of Marco Polo, Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan, James Cook.
