Сценарий внеклассного мероприятия по английскому языку для учащихся 8-9 классов
Good morning boys and girls, our guests. Today we remember such holiday as Thanksgiving day. We listen historical information, do some tasks, play games and sing songs. Well, let’s start.
Almost every culture in the world has held celebrations of thanks for a feast of plentiful harvest. The American Thanksgiving holiday began as a feast of thanksgiving in the early days of the American colonies almost four hundred years ago.
In 1620, a boat named “Mayflower” filled with more than one hundred people sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to settle in the New World. This religious group has begun to question the beliefs of the Church of England and they wanted to separate from it. The Pilgrims settled in what is now the state of Massachusetts.
3. Then, we listen another two pupils.
Their first winter in the New World was difficult-they had arrived too late to grow many crops, and without fresh food and about half of the people died. So they turned for help to neighbouring Indians and the following spring the Iroquois Indians taught them how grow corn( maize), a new food for the colonists. They showed them other crops to grow in the unfamiliar soil and how to hunt and fish.
In the autumn of 1621, bountiful crops of corn, barley, beans and pumpkins were harvested. The colonists had much to be thankful for, so a feast was planned. They invited the local Indian chief and 90 Indians.
4.Now, we have a rest, today we see that Iroquois Indians,
they sing a song “ten little Indians boys” you may sing with them(pupil from grade 4 sing a song):

4 little, 5 little, 6 little Indians,
7 little, 8 little, 9 little Indians,
10 little Indians boys.

Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November, a different date every year. The president must proclaim that date as the official celebration. Today this day know as a National Day of Thanksgiving and to gather together in homes and places of worship.
6. O’K information about symbols of Thanksgiving day:(Listen one pupil)
Turkey, corn, pumpkins and cranberry sauce are symbols which represent the first Thanksgiving. Now all of these symbols are drawn on holiday decorations and greeting cards. The use of corn meant the survival of the colonies. “ Indians corn” as a table or door decoration represents the harvest and the fall season. Sweet-sour cranberry sauce, or cranberry jelly, was on the first Thanksgiving table and is still served today.
7. I know so many riddles about this holidays let’s guess(who guess riddles will be the captains for two teams):
It is big. It is orange colour. We eat it in autumn(pumpkins).
It is a bird. It is a symbol of holiday Thanksgiving day.(turkey)
It is very tasty berry. Indians use it as a medicine.(cranberry).
It is a person. He or she wear long hair. Their skin is a brown. (Indians)

And another task. In this day people cook a turkey and make a jelly. Write a recipe how to do it use these phrases:(a-take turkey, wash it, use some salt, pepper and… put in stove, bake for 40 minutes, nearly in 200-220 degree oven, until turkey is brown, enjoy it) (b-take cranberry, wash berries, take some sugar and some water, put into big bowl, boil nearly 20-30 minutes, when it’s cool can eat, enjoy it)(1 team is win).
